VIEW Volunteering
VIEW Volunteering Programme has been running since July 2021. The programme is designed to help those in recovery from substance misuse, and family members, bring structure to their week, gain confidence and self-esteem through meeting others, peer conversations, learning new skills, finding purpose and helping others.
VIEW stands for:
-
Volunteering - giving up time to help others means you make a difference to people’s lives.
-
Involvement - Involvement in community projects, involvement with peer, being part of something bigger.
-
Experiences - Trying something new, offering your skills to develop a project or teach others, shared experiences that build friendships and community.
-
Work - working on a project, working on relationships, working on recovery.
The Application Process
We have a ‘light touch’ application process that involves the application form and references. These are simply to find out about you and how we can make the volunteering work best for your journey. It isn’t about your skills and abilities to perform tasks…we will give any training or development needed! During the process you will meet the Volunteer Coordinator and be able to chat about what you want to do, any worries you may have and how we can help.We treat everyone on an individual basis and so we don’t simply send out application forms- we want to start getting to know you at the start of the process.
VIEW is a structured programme but is flexible enough to help everyone’s recovery journeys. No experience is necessary to join up, and as well as volunteering opportunities we have days out, workshops, training opportunities and awards that all volunteers can achieve.
